Chelsea FC secure multi-year association with Twilio

With this deal, Twilio has been named Chelsea FC's official supplier.

The Premier League (PL) powerhouse, Chelsea FC have inked a new multi-year partnership with a customer engagement platform, Twilio.

With this deal, the brand has been named the team’s official supplier. Notably, Twilio’s Twilio Segment consumer data platform will improve fan interactions and experiences at stadiums as well as through digital connections.

Twilio Segment will enable Chelsea FC to acquire greater insights into their 615 million-strong worldwide audience by better understanding how those fans engage across in-person and online touchpoints, resulting in a 360-degree perspective of a fan’s experience with Chelsea. With a better knowledge of what the fans desire from the club, the brand can deliver highly tailored experiences that bring domestic and international supporters closer together.

Chelsea will be able to use Twilio Segment to generate meaningful engagements for each fan while also searching for methods to build and improve the following for the team’s men’s and women’s teams. For example, in the future, the club might reward fans by providing relevant promotions when they visit our stadiums, personalising the content they see with their favourite Chelsea player across the men’s and women’s teams, and tailoring online and app experiences for each side’s followers.

Phil Lynch, Chief Digital Officer of Chelsea Football Club, said, “We are delighted to welcome Twilio to the Chelsea family and look forward to engaging more deeply with our global fanbase thanks to its Segment technology. For many fans, regardless of their geographical location, digital connectivity is what brings them closer to the club, our players, and our history. Twilio’s leading work in customer engagement will help enrich these fan experiences and offer an increased level of personalisation and connection to the club for our global fanbase.”

Peter Bell, Vice President of Marketing, EMEA at Twilio, said, “This exciting new partnership will empower Chelsea Football Club to connect with their fans like never before. With Twilio Segment, Chelsea FC can unlock a truly 360 view of their fanbase, enabling powerful, personalised engagement both home and away. At Twilio, we’re committed to supporting Chelsea in allowing its fans to feel even closer to the club. We’re excited to see the game-changing impact of this partnership over the coming years.”

To commemorate the partnership’s announcement, Twilio is creating One in a Twilion, an award that recognises the contributions of women in technical teams. Submissions will be available to the public, with nominations for women in technology who have achieved outstanding achievements for their teams and enterprises. The one winner and two runners-up, chosen by some of Twilio’s female leaders, will be unveiled on March 5, 2025, in advance of International Women’s Day.
