Canon Medical Systems and Manchester United Football Club have announced a three-year extension of their long-standing partnership, marking over a decade of collaboration in elite sports medicine.

The renewed agreement underscores Canon Medical’s commitment to advancing player health, performance, and medical innovation at the club.

Since 2013, Canon Medical has been a cornerstone of the club’s Carrington Training Complex, supplying advanced imaging technologies to support cardiac, musculoskeletal (MSK), and general sports medicine. As part of the extended partnership, Manchester United will benefit from upgraded MRI, ultrasound, and healthcare IT systems, including the state-of-the-art Vantage Galan 3T MRI system, enhanced with the Advanced intelligent Clear-IQ Engine (AiCE) to improve image clarity and reduce scanning times.

The collaboration also emphasizes research into injury prevention and rehabilitation, focusing on MSK imaging, injury detection, and sex-based differences in injury patterns. Insights from these studies aim to improve player welfare while informing broader clinical practices.

Speaking on the occasion, René Degros, Vice President of Canon Medical Systems Europe, said, “This extension of our partnership with Manchester United reflects more than a decade of close collaboration and shared commitment to innovation in sports medicine. From cardiac screening to injury rehabilitation, our imaging systems continue to play a vital role in supporting player health and performance. We are proud to work alongside one of the world’s largest football clubs as we further expand our research and clinical focus over the next three years.”

Dr. Gary O’Driscoll, Head of Sports Medicine at Manchester United, added, “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Canon Medical Systems, a collaboration that has been fundamental to advancing the health and performance of our players over the past 12 years. Their cutting-edge imaging technology and shared commitment to research have enabled us to enhance injury prevention, diagnosis, and rehabilitation across our men’s, women’s, and academy teams. This renewed partnership reinforces our dedication to providing the highest standard of care and innovation to support our athletes both on and off the pitch.”

Canon Medical’s technologies play a crucial role in proactive health measures, including annual cardiac screenings for players across all teams, from the academy to the first team. These screenings are designed to identify potential heart abnormalities and prevent serious conditions such as sudden cardiac arrest.

Beyond benefiting Manchester United’s players, the partnership contributes to the broader medical community by translating insights from elite sports medicine into real-world clinical applications.

The extension adds to a growing list of world-renowned brands affiliated with Manchester United, including Sportsbreaks.com, Parimatch, Coca-Cola, Sokin, STATSports, and Apollo Tyres, highlighting the club’s robust commercial portfolio.

Heading into the international break, the Red Devils sit 10th in the Premier League table. Their upcoming fixtures include clashes with Liverpool on October 19, Brighton & Hove Albion on October 25, and Nottingham Forest on November 1, as they look to regain momentum and climb the league standings.
