The Cadillac Formula 1 Team has further strengthened its technical and commercial foundations by signing a multi-year partnership with global technology company 3M, which has joined the American outfit as its material science partner.
The agreement extends well beyond traditional sponsorship, positioning 3M as a strategic engineering partner that will contribute advanced material science expertise across the team’s vehicle development programme. By combining Cadillac’s motorsport ambitions with 3M’s century-long history of innovation in industrial manufacturing, the collaboration aims to unlock performance gains both on and off the track.
As part of the partnership, 3M will work alongside Cadillac’s engineers across six key technical areas, including lightweight materials, bonding technologies, surface preparation, manufacturing optimisation, laboratory testing and trackside engineering support. The collaboration is designed to improve vehicle performance, accelerate development cycles and enhance manufacturing efficiency, where even the smallest engineering improvements can translate into competitive advantages in Formula 1.
Beyond the racetrack, the partnership also provides 3M with a global platform to demonstrate its material science capabilities in one of the world’s most technologically demanding sporting environments. Formula 1’s relentless pursuit of innovation offers an ideal proving ground for advanced manufacturing solutions that can ultimately be transferred to broader automotive and industrial applications.
William Brown, 3M Chairman and CEO, said, “At 3M, we apply science and manufacturing expertise to help solve complex challenges. This partnership demonstrates how 3M technologies can drive results in a highly demanding environment by advancing speed, efficiency and performance.”
Tyler Epp, Global Head of Commercial Strategy, Cadillac Formula 1® Team, added, “We’re proud to welcome 3M to the Cadillac Formula 1® Team. They share our belief that championships are won in the details, and their materials and R&D will help us compete where the margins matter most.”
The partnership was facilitated by Excel Sports Management, the agency of record for the Cadillac Formula 1 Team, which supported discussions between both organisations.
The announcement further expands Cadillac’s rapidly growing commercial and technical partner network ahead of its inaugural Formula 1 campaign. Alongside 3M, the team has secured partnerships with Memento Exclusives, Core Scientific, TWG, Tenneco, América Móvil, IFS, Jim Beam and Tommy Hilfiger, reflecting a deliberate strategy of combining global commercial brands with specialist technology providers. The addition of 3M reinforces the team’s commitment to building a competitive operation through engineering excellence, technical collaboration and long-term innovation—an approach that has become increasingly central to success in modern Formula 1.
