Butterfly, the globally renowned table tennis equipment manufacturer owned by Tamasu Co. Ltd., has signed a landmark five-year title sponsorship agreement with Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT), reinforcing the commercial momentum behind India’s premier professional table tennis league.

Beginning with the 2026 season, the competition will be rebranded as Butterfly Ultimate Table Tennis, with the agreement set to run through 2030. The long-term partnership represents one of the most significant commercial commitments in Indian table tennis, underlining growing global confidence in the sport’s expanding ecosystem in the country.

The collaboration extends beyond conventional title rights, positioning Butterfly as a strategic partner in the development of the sport’s high-performance and grassroots structures. The company will supply professional-grade competition equipment and support initiatives focused on expanding participation, strengthening coaching standards, and building a more structured player development pathway across India.

UTT has been working towards establishing a sustainable talent pipeline through its network of academies and competitive platforms, including the Challenger Cup and domestic league initiatives. The addition of Butterfly as title partner is expected to further enhance infrastructure standards available to athletes, while strengthening the league’s credibility within the global table tennis landscape.

Commenting on the announcement, Vita Dani, Co-Promoter, Ultimate Table Tennis, said, “Bringing a global leader like Butterfly on board as our title sponsor is a defining moment for table tennis in India, and the trust placed in UTT by a globally respected Japanese brand is a clear indicator that India is emerging as a force in the world of table tennis. From day one, our ambition has been to build something that lasts — not just a league, but a strong and enduring ecosystem for the sport — and this partnership is a powerful step in that direction.

“Together, we have the opportunity to shape the future of Indian table tennis — by giving our athletes access to world-class infrastructure and equipment, making one of the sport’s most respected brands more accessible, and creating a sustainable pathway that nurtures talent for generations to come.”

Takako Osawa, CEO, Tamasu Co., Ltd. (Butterfly), added, “We are deeply honoured to take this new step as the title sponsor alongside UTT, which continues to lead the development of table tennis in India, and to support its journey over the long term. We are committed not only to providing equipment but also to creating new connections through table tennis and supporting everyone involved in the sport. Through this partnership, we hope to bring the appeal of table tennis to a broader audience and contribute to even greater value and expansion in the table tennis community in India.”

Since its inception in 2017, Ultimate Table Tennis has contributed significantly to raising the visibility of table tennis in India through its franchise-based format featuring leading domestic and international players. The league has helped bridge the gap between grassroots participation and elite competition, while also attracting increasing commercial interest in a sport traditionally operating outside cricket’s mainstream ecosystem.

The upcoming season will also mark a structural expansion of the competition, with the league set to feature seven teams following the addition of UP Prometheans, signalling continued investor confidence in the property’s long-term growth potential. Season 7 will feature seven teams competing in a single round-robin format, where each team will face every other team once in the league phase. The total number of ties will increase to 24, up from 23 for the last two seasons.

In the most recent edition of the league, U Mumba TT secured their maiden title, defeating Jaipur Patriots 8-4 in the Season 6 final held in Ahmedabad. The result highlighted the growing competitiveness of the league, with multiple teams now capable of mounting title challenges.

The 2026 season of Butterfly Ultimate Table Tennis is scheduled to take place in July, bringing together top Indian paddlers and international stars as the league continues its effort to strengthen India’s position within the global table tennis ecosystem.
