Bundesliga International renews content pact with Footballco

The year begins with the publication of a three-part documentary series produced by Footballco about the history of Arab players in the Bundesliga.

Bundesliga International renewed its content collaboration with global media platform Footballco, collaborating to offer the most important stories from Germany’s top two divisions to fans in the MENA and Sub-Saharan Africa areas.

Footballco is the owner and operator of several free-to-use properties, such as Kooora, the biggest digital sports publisher in the Middle East, and GOAL, a global football publisher that serves fans in MENA and Sub-Saharan Africa by publishing local editions in Arabic and English and running a variety of regional social media accounts.

Notably, the year begins with the publication of a three-part documentary series produced by Footballco about the history of Arab players in the Bundesliga.

The Era of Arabs tracks the effect of the first Arab players to make their imprint on German territory to those who carry the torch today. The series comprises contributions from players such as pioneering Moroccan international Rachid Azzouzi, the reigning Bundesliga champion with Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Amine Adli, and Champions League runner-up Ramy Bansebaini (Borussia Dortmund).

The series will be released via Footballco’s networks, reaching more than 250 million monthly fans throughout both areas. The first episode is accessible here, and the remaining two will be published on January 23 and 30, respectively.

Bundesliga International Chief Marketing Officer, Peer Naubert, said, “Since 2018 and the introduction of the Bundesliga International’s localised marketing strategy, our focus has been on working with the highest quality partners in order to let them tell the most relevant and engaging stories to their audiences. Content partners are a key element of that strategy, and our extended partnership with Footballco is the perfect example of this, with the ‘Era of Arabs’ documentary aptly showing Bundesliga fans – new and old – the great history German football has with the region, a legacy which continues today.”

Footballco’s Head of Global football partnerships, Ben Honeyman, said, “As the biggest producer of Arabic language football content in the world, we’re looking forward to continuing our partnership with the Bundesliga and bringing fans the best stories and multi-media content from one of the most exciting leagues in the world. We’re also immensely proud of ‘The Era of Arabs’ series and how it highlights the impact and stories of players often overlooked in European football. We’re grateful to Bundesliga International for trusting us to tell this part of the league’s history.”

Being involved directly with the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga as a content partner, Footballco has access to the league’s media database, encompassing the globe’s biggest digital football archive, along with additional photos, graphics, and more, allowing it to create and release its own content formats, each telling a unique story to millions of users.

The Bundesliga’s content partner network collaborates with the league’s broadcast partners, such as beIN Sports and its streaming partner, TOD, in the Middle East, and Azam TV, Canal+, New World Television, SABC, StarTimes, and ZAP Media in Sub-Saharan Africa. Content partners choose the Bundesliga’s most thrilling and engaging tales, then use the DFL’s huge media inventory to portray each story in a regionally appropriate manner. Footballco joins a network of over 20 content partners strategically situated throughout the world, collaborating with the league and its clubs to provide compelling and informative content. Every season, content partners’ postings reach approximately two billion unique people, with close to 500 million engagements across social and digital channels.
