In an agreement arranged for the Bundesliga team by the SPORTFIVE agency, the brand has joined as a premium partner of the club.
As per the newly extended partnership, which commenced in July 2022, Coinbase already provided BVB staff members with a crypto education session. At Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park, Coinbase advertisements also appeared on the TV screens.
The Coinbase logo will be featured on perimeter advertising along with digital advertising and activations on BVB’s social media and digital channels, as per the new deal, which is valid through the conclusion of the current season.
In addition, a hospitality contest with the chance to win a matchday box for one home game in April as well as other prizes will be introduced in February.
Daniel Seifert, Vice-President and Regional Managing Director, EMEA and Spokesperson for Germany at Coinbase, said, “Coinbase with its crypto platform and Borussia Dortmund in the sporting arena both stand for trust and responsibility.”
The club has given the cryptocurrency prospect some thought within the parameters of Coinbase’s German trading license. The German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority granted Coinbase licences in 2021 for cryptocurrency custody and proprietary trading, which were only permitted for crypto assets and units of account. The first corporation in Germany to receive this license is Coinbase Germany, and this regulation is a first for Europe.
Carsten Cramer, BVB Managing Director, said, “The granting of the licence by the ‘BaFin’ is the clear signal for us to now have such a partner at our side in a segment that is still very new and often unclear to non-insiders. We are therefore delighted to partner with Coinbase as the responsible, secure and standards-compliant global platform for crypto trading.”
Thomas Joos, Executive Director at SPORTFIVE Borussia Dortmund team, commented, “It was important for us to find a trustworthy partner that fits in with Borussia Dortmund’s values. We have succeeded in doing so with Coinbase. The partnership offers Coinbase the opportunity to bring the crypto world closer to BVB fans in a clear and transparent way.”
