Ben Stokes likely to miss ICC T20 World Cup

The England squad for the World Cup will be announced before Friday next week and Ben Stokes is most likely to be excluded.

After confirming his absence from phase 2 of IPL, Ben Stokes will reportedly also miss the ICC T20 World Cup.

As per several reports, Ben Stokes decided to take some time off of cricket and focus on his mental well-being, he also is resting his fractured finger that was operated on earlier this year. Reports also suggest that people close to Stokes said, “He is not even thinking about cricket right now.” 

The England squad for the World Cup will be announced before Friday next week and Ben Stokes is most likely to be excluded.

As per the rules of ICC, teams can name 15 players, three reserves and can make changes until 10th October.

However, Daily Mail reports that the English selectors can name Ben Stokes as one of the three reserves taking advantage of ICC’s rules. 

Ben Stokes will also be missing phase 2 of IPL 2021 along with his English teammate Jos Buttler who will also won’t participate due to the expected birth of his second child. 

The Royals announced West Indies cricketers Oshane Thomas and Evin Lewis as replacements for their star players. 

Phase 2 of IPL 2021 is set to begin in the UAE from 19th September where Chennai Super Kings will play Mumbai Indians in the first game of the second phase. 

Rajasthan Royals has acquired the fifth spot in the points table with six points in seven games as they will be looking to make a place for themselves in the knockout stages of the competition.
