BCCI prepares blueprint for two new teams in IPL; be finalized by mid-October: Report

BCCI is also planning a major Media Rights auction at the end of the year ahead which being potentially available from the IPL 2023.

BCCI have finalised the plans for a mega auction and the inclusion of two new IPL team franchises ahead of the IPL 2022. The tenders for the two new teams will be given out in August as the board prepares for a massive turnover and a mega auction.

The tenders which will be passed out in Mid August have been showing interest by many organisations, RP-Sanjiv Goenka group, Adani group and AuroBindo Pharma ltd have been a few of the many to be showing interest in the tenders with the firms being based out of Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad respectively.

Along with this BCCI will also increase the salary purse from Rs 85 crores to Rs 90 crores, they will also add Rs 50 crores to the complete salary pool which will be among 10 franchises. Mandatorily franchises will have to spend 75% of the purse pool and this will increase from Rs 90 crores to Rs 95 crores and so on in the next three years.

BCCI has also planned the retention of players ahead of the mega auction. Each franchise will be allowed to retain four players in the mega auction with the option of retaining either three Indian players or one overseas player or two Indian or two overseas players.

Along with this, the BCCI is also planning a major Media Rights auction at the end of the year ahead. With March being potentially available from the IPL 2023, it will help the BCCI to conduct 90 plus matches between 10 teams. The media rights too are expected to surge by a minimum of 25%.
