BCCI extends deadline for acquiring IPL media rights tender documents

The decision was made in response to requests from a variety of interested parties.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the extension of the deadline for acquiring tender documents in connection with the ‘Invitation to Tender’ (ITT) for media rights to the Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons 2023-2027.

The IPL governing council made the ITT documents available on March 29 in exchange for non-refundable ITT fees.

The decision was made in response to requests from a variety of interested parties.

Any interested party who intends to make a bid must first purchase the ITT. Nevertheless, all who meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the ITT and agree to the other contractual terms stated in the same will be qualified to bid.

The BCCI has also stated that simply purchasing the ITT does not qualify anyone to bid. Along with this, BCCI also reserves the right to terminate or modify the bidding process at any time and in any way.

As previously reported, the foremost bidders for IPL media rights are presumed to be Disney Star, Zee-Sony, Sports18 and Amazon.

Star India and Sony Pictures Networks India have held media rights to the tournament for the past 15 years. Sony held the rights for ten years, while Star held them for five.

The IPL media rights were well almost doubled in value in 2017, with Star spending Rs 16,347.5 crore for the global deal. Sony, on the other hand, paid Rs 8200 crore for television rights in the Indian subcontinent.
