BCCI confirms Asia Cup 2022 to be held in UAE

In the previous edition of the Asia Cup, which was held in 2018, India won the title after defeating Bangladesh in an exhilarating final.

Due to the ongoing recession in Sri Lanka, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the Asia Cup 2022 will now be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Sourav Ganguly, President of the BCCI, revealed the much-anticipated news on Thursday.

The contest this year will be played in T20 format from August 27 to September 11. The tournament will feature six teams. The five teams that are already confirmed are India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The sixth team will be announced shortly after the qualifiers are done.

In the previous edition of the Asia Cup, which was held in 2018, India won the title after defeating Bangladesh in an exhilarating final. The Men In Blue has also won the Asia Cup the most times, with seven trophies to its credit. The Asia Cup was held in T20 format for the first time in 2016.

The biggest draw of the event would be the match between India and Pakistan, and we can expect India to send its ideal XI to the tournament. The Rohit Sharma-led side will also be hoping to seek revenge for its 10-wicket loss to arch-rival Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

According to some media reports, India and Pakistan will be positioned in the same group for viewers and business interests, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan will be in the other group.
