BCCI announces T20 World Cup squad, MS Dhoni to join as mentor

Former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni to join the team as a mentor.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad that will be travelling to the UAE for the ICC T20 World Cup.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah and selection committee chairman Chetan Sharma made the announcement.

Virat Kohli (Capt), Rohit Sharma (VC), KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohd Shami have been included in the 15-member squad.

Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar will be travelling as standby players.

BCCI conducted a meeting with coach Ravi Shastri and team captain Virat Kohli to finalize the players and are taking standby players as a contingency for Covid-19.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah said, “Former captain MS Dhoni to mentor the team for the T20 World Cup“.

According to the official, the selection committee had a virtual meeting with Virat Kohli and decided the final squad for the World Cup before the 4th Test at The Oval against England.

The upcoming T20 World Cup commences from October 17 and the final will be played on November 14. India will be playing its first match of the tournament against Pakistan on October 24. India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, New Zealand and two qualifiers from the first round will be present in Group 2.
