Mattel, the iconic toy company, has marked the 65th anniversary of Barbie in India with a powerful campaign aimed at empowering young girls.
The “You Can Be Anything” initiative, featuring the inspiring captain of the Indian women’s national cricket team, Harmanpreet Kaur, seeks to ignite dreams and aspirations in the next generation.
Joined by a group of bright young Barbie fans, Kaur embodies the spirit of the campaign, serving as a powerful role model. Her inclusion in Barbie’s global Role Models community, alongside notable figures like Ibtihaj Muhammad, Misty Copeland, and Ava DuVernay, reinforces the brand’s commitment to inspiring positive change.
A centrepiece of the campaign is a short film showcasing Kaur and the young girls sharing their personal stories. The film emphasises the profound impact of role models and the belief that “you can be what you can see.”
Aditi Ravichandar, Head of Marketing at Mattel India, expressed her enthusiasm for the campaign, stating, “The brand purpose of Barbie is to inspire the limitless potential in every child. When a child plays with Barbie, they play out their dreams and imagine they can be anything. This in turn puts the brand in a powerful place to be able to empower children to unlock a variety of possibilities for the future. In line with this purpose, we are thrilled to partner with Harmanpreet Kaur. This partnership allows us to continue to shine a light on inspirational women doing amazing things, thereby empowering the next generation!”
Harmanpreet Kaur, added, “It’s an honour to collaborate with Barbie and serve as a role model for young girls across India. Like the support I received from my father, I believe in nurturing young minds with positive influences like Barbie, empowering them to believe in their dreams without limits. Together, we aspire to motivate and uplift the next generation to realize their fullest potential.”
As Barbie continues to celebrate its legacy in India, the “You Can Be Anything” campaign serves as a powerful reminder of the brand’s dedication to empowering young girls and inspiring them to reach for the stars.
