One of the biggest private sector banks in India, Axis Bank has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Lakshya Shooting Club (LSC) to build a cutting-edge “Axis Bank Lakshya Shooting Club High Performance Centre” (HPC) in Navi Mumbai as part of its dedication to bolstering India’s sports ecosystem.

The MoU was signed in Mumbai by Ms. Suma Shirur, Chairman of the Lakshya Shooting Club, and Mr. Vijay Mulbagal, Group Executive & Head – Wholesale Bank Coverage & Sustainability, Axis Bank, in front of other top bank executives.

This unique Shooting Centre will offer world-class facilities, extensive sports development programs, and community involvement activities to support developing shooters. It will also train Olympic-level elite shooters and work to provide an open and inclusive platform for spotting new talent. This alliance intends to establish India as a global leader in shooting sports.

Ms. Suma Shirur, an Olympian and Arjuna & Dronacharya Awardee, created the Lakshya Shooting Club, a recognised training site for young shooters around the country. Suma guided the Indian National Shooting Team to a remarkable medal haul at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Under this MoU, Axis Bank will provide financial and developmental assistance for Lakshya Shooting Club to construct a holistic centre that will feature two modern shooting ranges for air rifle, air pistol, and simulated 50m rifle. A unified Sport Science Centre with performance analysis, injury prevention, and rehabilitation assistance, a Sports Psychology unit to support athletes’ emotional and mental well-being, residential housing for players and coaches, and extra training facilities.

The Centre is scheduled to welcome around 400 athletes each year, including both resident and non-resident participants. It is intended to be totally accessible and para-friendly, assisting para-athletes, including those who have previously represented India in the Paralympics and Deaflympics.

Vijay Mulbagal, Group Executive & Head – Wholesale Bank Coverage & Sustainability, Axis Bank, said, “We are proud to reaffirm our commitment to Indian sports as we partner with the Lakshya Shooting Club to establish world-class shooting infrastructure in India. We believe that the Centre will play a leading role in enabling our top shooters to succeed at the Olympic level, and also help identifying and nurturing the next generation of shooting talent in India.’’

Suma Shirur, Olympian & High-Performance Director, Lakshya Shooting Club, said, “This partnership with Axis Bank means a lot. It brings us closer to our dream — a centre where talent receives the right support, and every young shooter feels they have a real chance to succeed.”
