Australia vs India: Injury woes worsen for the visitors ahead of fourth test

As every game of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy passes, India’s injury curse seems to worsen. After Ravindra Jadeja and Hanuma Vihari being ruled out fourth test due to serious injuries, it looks like pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will also be unavailable.

On day test of the Sydney Test, star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja suffered a blow to his left thumb while batting. As his scans and the results showed, he has suffered a fracture in his thumb. As a further course of action, he will now head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to start rehabilitation. Shardul Thakur is most likely to replace Jadeja in Brisbane.

Hanuma Vihari, the star of India’s epic draw at SCG, is also not going to play in the Gabba Test as he has a hamstring injury. Since it is reportedly a grade two tear in hamstring, it will take three to six weeks for recovery, which means it is possible that he might not play in the upcoming England Test series at home. Considering the seriousness of injury, Vihari showed a lot of courage and resilience to play marathon innings on Monday to save the test match for India.

The most recent addition to India’s constantly growing list of injured players is Jasprit Bumrah. According to PTI, BCCI sources have confirmed that Bumrah will not play in Brisbane due to abdominal strain.

However, ANI has reported that the team management wants Bumrah to play even if he is 50 percent fit. More clarity on this decision is expected soon. Indian team should avoid risking Bumrah since his services will be needed in the upcoming home series against England.
