ATK Mohun Bagan sign Liston Colaco for a record transfer fee

Indian Super League (ISL) club ATK Mohun Bagan has secured the signature of Hyderabad FC forward Liston Colaco on a record transfer fee for a domestic player in Indian football. In doing so, they will break the Indian football record for the highest transfer fee for an Indian player. ATK will be paying Rs 1 crore to Hyderabad to acquire his services. 

The 22-year-old will join the Green & Maroon from June 1 and will sign a two-year deal with the Mariners, which will keep him at the club till 2023. Mohun Bagan finished the 2020-21 ISL campaign as runners-up behind champions and league winners Mumbai City in their first season in the ISL.  They are eyeing a much better title next season by completing this transfer ahead of next season. They are set to bring on board one of Indian football’s hottest prospects in Colaco.

Colaco can play at different positions he can play as a center-forward and as a right midfielder. He played a total of 19 games in ISL 20/21 scoring two and assisting three in the process. The 22-year-old earned his call for the Indian National team and made his debut in the match United Arab Emirates where India got thrashed 6-0. Igor Stimac decided to start him along with Manvir Singh in a front two.

Liston Colaco was part of Manolo Márquez’s Hyderabad side that made a significant improvement from their debut season in 2019. They finished fifth in the league as opposed to tenth in their debut season. Hyderabad was the only team in ISL that played with six Indian players. He made his name in the third division of Indian football, scoring six goals in just 12 matches, and caught the eye of FC Goa.
