Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 India vs Sri Lanka: Dasun Shanaka powers Sri Lanka to an emphatic win

With this result, India are now logically out of the tournament.

In match three of the super four round of the Asia Cup 2022, Sri Lanka defeated India by six wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, UAE.

Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bowl first. A clever decision as the Lanka bowlers successfully restricted India to a low score of 172/8. A strong performance by Dilshan Madhushanka along with the captain and Chamika Karunaratne led the team to a strong position at halftime.

In the second innings, both the openers, Pathum Nissanka (52) and Kusal Mendis (57) batted steadily and gave Sri Lanka a mighty start. The opening duo scored 97 runs together which was enough to build doubts in Indian fans’ minds. After losing a few wickets, it was down to the final few overs wherein Bhanuka Rajapaksa (25) hit a few blows out of the park and revived Sri Lanka’s inning. This was followed by captain Shanaka (33) who took the game till the end and comprehensively won it by six wickets. His quickfire knock which played at the strike rate of 183.33 included four fours and one six.

For India, only captain Rohit Sharma (70) looked solid as he smashed an impressive fifty. Suryakumar Yadav (34) also was in fine touch but failed to capitalise on it. A few contributions from Hardik Pandya (17), Rishabh Pant (17) and Ravichandran Ashwin (15) in the end aided India to a good score.

Dilshan Madhushanka picked three crucial wickets today which was followed by Dasun Shanaka and Karunaratne with two wickets each. Maheesh Theekshana also grabbed one wicket.

For India, Yuzvendra Chahal scalped three wickets along with Ravichandran Ashwin who claimed one wicket.

Dasun Shanaka was adjudged Man of the Match for his amazing all-round performance which included captaincy as well. With this result, India are now logically out of the tournament.
