Arsenal sign Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna

Takehiro Tomiyasu has played sixty-four times for the Italian club.

Premier League club Arsenal has signed Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyasu from the Serie A club Bologna on a five-year deal. Following the departure of the Spanish right-back Hector Bellerin to Real Betis, Arsenal needed a new player. Tomiyasu joins Arsenal for a reported fee of £16 million.

Takehiro Tomiyasu has played sixty-four times for the Italian club. He has been impressive with his defensive performance and has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe. Although he can play at centre back too, he’s predominantly a right back.

We’re delighted to have signed Takehiro. We’ve been watching him for a while now and we’re pleased that we have reached an agreement with Bologna. He is an important addition to our squad,” said Arsenal technical director Edu.

Takehiro is a strong defender with good experience in Serie A and at international level. He’s a versatile defender with great defensive qualities, high technical ability and composure on the ball,” said Mikel Arteta.

He will be an important member of our squad. We look forward to Takehiro joining up with us when he returns from international duty.”

The Gunners are currently in a horrible patch. It’s the first time in their history that they’ve lost all three opening matches in the Premier League and haven’t scored once. Arsenal lost 2-0 to Brentford and Chelsea followed by a 5-0 defeat to Manchester City. Arsenal will be playing its next fixture on September 11 against Norwich City at 7:30 PM IST at the Emirates Stadium.
