Angel Di Maria extends his contract with PSG till 2022

Angel Di Maria has extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain by one season until 2022. Announcing the news on the official website, PSG further added that the deal includes the option for an extra season.

The 33-year-old joined PSG from Manchester United in 2015 for £44.3 million. Since then, he has made 248 appearances for the French champions and has helped them to win 16 trophies, including four Ligue 1 titles (2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020), four Coupes de la Ligue (2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020), four Coupes de France (2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020), and four Trophees des Champions (2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020). The left-footed midfielder has the second-most assists in the history of the club, setting up 99 goals for his teammates. He is also the team’s eighth highest goal scorer of all time with 87 goals.

Talking about his extended stay at PSG, the Argentine said, “ I am very happy to have been able to extend my adventure with Paris Saint-Germain for another year, with an additional year as an option. I think that it’s something that is very important for me. I have always said that I am very happy in Paris, and my family is too. My daughters love Paris, their school, their friends. My desire was therefore to continue here because I feel good at the club and in this city. If I have renewed my contract, it’s also because the club is happy with me, and equally because the coach is happy. I hope to be able to make my name in the club’s history.”

PSG will now focus on extending the contracts of the club’s leading scorers Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, both of whom will see their contracts expire at the end of next season. Mbappe has been already linked with Real Madrid, but to see how does that pan out, we have to wait. Both of them will play a crucial role in the team’s campaign in the Champions League. The Parisian club recently qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating Barcelona by 5-2 on aggregate.
