Amazon continues to explore sports as an avenue to create documentaries and bring content on OTT platforms that will give sports fans an insight into some of the best teams in the world. Australia’s women’s cricket team will be getting a documentary- “Record” based on the historic T-20 World Cup win in 2020.
The OTT platform released the trailer of Record on February 7. The documentary will be available for fans on Amazon Prime Video later this week on February 12. Australia’s women cricket team had beaten India in the final of the T-20 World Cup in Melbourne Cricket Ground in March 2020. It was a historic final as MCG recorded the highest attendance for a women’s T-20 or any cricket match with an attendance of 86,174.
It will be a two-part documentary series produced by Her Productions. The main objective for Her Productions has been to produce women empowering content. The journey of the fifth T-20 World Cup title for Australia was an inspiring one. They were considered as favourites for the tournament, but the hosts lost their premium all-rounder Ellyse Perry midway through the competition. Despite the big setback, Australia managed to convincingly win the tournament on Women’s day last year.
‘Record’ joins the ever-growing list of sports documentaries on Amazon Prime Video. It has become an intriguing genre for producers to venture as sports do has drama and high entertainment value. Amazon has already released long series on Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspurs, and Leeds United. They recently announced a deal with German giant Bayern Munich to produce a series on their treble-winning 2019/20 campaign.
Along with football, cricket has become an interesting topic for Amazon to create documentaries. They already had a long series covering the Australian cricket team. The Test did receive a good response, so Amazon will be hoping that Record also gets a similar response since it is an inspiring story about the women’s cricket team.
