AkzoNobel and McLaren Racing have confirmed a multi-year extension of their long-standing global partnership, reinforcing a collaboration built around high-performance engineering, technological innovation, and a shared focus on sustainability across elite motorsport.

Under the renewed agreement, AkzoNobel will continue in its role as McLaren Racing’s official paint and coatings partner, supplying advanced coating solutions across the team’s Formula 1 operations. This includes applications on race cars, garage environments, team facilities, and the McLaren Technology Centre, where materials are tested under some of the most demanding conditions in global sport.

The partnership remains strongly technical at its core. AkzoNobel’s coatings are engineered to deliver critical performance benefits, including reduced weight, enhanced durability, resistance to extreme heat, and optimised surface finishes that support aerodynamic efficiency. In a sport defined by marginal gains, these innovations play a meaningful role both on track and behind the scenes. The F1 programme also serves as a live development platform, allowing AkzoNobel to accelerate innovation and transfer learnings into broader automotive and industrial markets.

Sustainability continues to be a central pillar of the collaboration. Both organisations are aligned on reducing environmental impact through lower-carbon solutions, improved material efficiency, and enhanced lifecycle performance. McLaren Racing provides a real-world proving ground for next-generation coating technologies, while AkzoNobel supports the team’s wider sustainability objectives through product innovation and process improvement.

Patrick Bourguignon, Director of AkzoNobel’s Automotive and Speciality Coatings Business, said, “We’re incredibly excited to continue and extend our collaboration with such a long-standing and valued partner. Our search for better never stops, so we’ll carry on working together to push boundaries and explore new possibilities in the areas of sustainability, technological innovation, and product development.”

Matt Dennington, Co-Chief Commercial Officer, McLaren Racing, added, “AkzoNobel has been a trusted partner for McLaren for nearly two decades, and we’re excited to take that collaboration to the next level. Partners who share our passion for performance and innovation are key to achieving success, and we look forward to working together as we enter the World Endurance Championship.”

As part of the expanded relationship, AkzoNobel has also joined the McLaren United Autosports Hypercar programme ahead of McLaren’s entry into the FIA World Endurance Championship, marking a significant extension of the partnership beyond F1. The Hypercar category represents the pinnacle of endurance racing, combining advanced technology with long-distance performance demands.

AkzoNobel and McLaren Racing first began working together in 2008, and the renewed agreement underscores the strength of a partnership that has evolved over nearly two decades. The collaboration continues to demonstrate how modern motorsport partnerships extend beyond brand visibility, functioning instead as platforms for applied innovation and sustainable progress.

The extended agreement also ensures continued global brand presence for AkzoNobel across McLaren’s race cars, driver apparel, team kit, and trackside environments throughout the international racing calendar.

Together, AkzoNobel and McLaren Racing will continue to push the boundaries of performance, efficiency, and sustainable innovation, using motorsport as both a competitive arena and a catalyst for technological advancement beyond the racetrack.
