The Dutch football club, AFC Ajax, has announced about extending its partnership deal with the club’s main sponsor, Ziggo. The club only announced a deal to extend the partnership with Ziggo until 2023, in January this year which was set to end in 2022. At that time, the club said it has an option to extend its ties until 2025, and just after 10 months, Ajax has triggered that clause.
Ziggo first became Ajax’s shirt sponsor in 2015, in which the deal was reported $9.6 million a year, and adding some bonuses. But when the deal was extended for three years ahead of the 2019/20 season, Ziggo agreed to increase its annual basic fee. While the deal, which was signed earlier this year in January makes Ziggo the main sponsor of the club’s esports division.
The partnership between Ajax and Ziggo will continue to focus on providing exclusive Ajax content on Ziggo sports channels and offering benefits to fans of the club. There is also a new customer program of Ziggo, through which fans will be given access to special experiences at Ajax and tickets for the matches.
Speaking on the occasion Menno Geelen, commercial director, AFC Ajax, said, “Ziggo has been on our shirts since 2015 and it is safe to say that this partnership is getting better and stronger every year. We are grateful to Ziggo for the support they have already given us and for the confidence they have in our future. When, in 2025, we will be looking back on 10 years of main sponsorship, I am sure we will look back with satisfaction on the sports successes we shared and on the way our fans have benefited from our long-term cooperation.”
Adding to it, Marcel de Groot, executive director, consumer market, VodafoneZiggo, said “We are proud of the extension of our main sponsorship and see that the appeal of Ajax is only increasing. Ajax will therefore play a major role in our new Priority customer program, alongside our other partners such as Ziggo Dome and MOJO. We are very much looking forward to letting our customers experience the magic of Ajax on an even bigger and better scale than before, with ticket deals and all kinds of unique experiences throughout the season.”
AFC Ajax currently sits top of the Eredivisie league table collecting 26 points from their last 11 games. The club’s next match is a Champions League fixture where they will play against Borussia Dortmund, on Wednesday.
