Ahmedabad IPL franchise announces Gujarat Titans as official name

Gujarat Titans would aim to perform well in the mega auction.

The Ahmedabad-based franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has announced its official name ahead of the mega auction for the upcoming edition.

Team Ahmedabad will officially be known as Gujarat Titans. The team revealed the most awaited update through their official social media handles.

The CVC Capital Partners acquired the ownership rights of the Ahmedabad team for a whopping INR 5,625 crore. The private equity firm won the rights for the team in the auction held by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Dubai, while the Lucknow-based franchise that is the Lucknow Super Giants was purchased by the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group.

The team has held some notable signings so far to build and enhance its franchise for its debut season. Vikram Solanki was roped in as the team director, while the legendary cricketer, Gary Kirsten was named the official mentor. The team also brought Ashish Nehra on board as the head coach of the franchise.

In addition to this, the new entity also signed some popular players. The franchise announced its three draft picks that included the Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan. Pandya and Rashid were signed by the team for INR 15 crore each while Gill was signed for INR 8 crore. The team would be led by the former Mumbai Indians player.

With some interesting player signings, the team has also been in talks with some popular brands for commercial partnerships. According to the SportsMint sources, the Gujarat Titans have signed a sponsorship contract with the fintech company, Slice and appointed the company as their principal and front-of-shirt sponsor.

The Gujarat Titans would aim to perform well in the mega auction. The highly anticipated auction will be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13 and would showcase a plethora of major player signings.
