ACC postpones U-19 Cricket Asia Cup due to COVID-19

The U-19 Asia Cup that was scheduled in November has been deferred due to the Covid-19 outbreak. UAE was set to host this tournament. Since February, many international series and tournaments have been postponed in cricket.

The pandemic has created a financial hole for the sports associations/federations due to the cancellation of tournaments. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) also decided to reschedule the U-19 Asia Cup in 2021. The Senior Asia Cup has already been postponed to June 2021 in Sri Lanka.

ACC this is the most crucial event in their calendar as it brings in 40-45% of the revenues for the governing body. Moreover, the rescheduling of the U-19 Asia Cup in 2021 will further increase congestion in the calendar. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to release a schedule for the new year soon, so ACC will have to adhere to that schedule to host tournaments.

ICC was also planning to hold the inaugural Women’s U-19 World Cup in January 2021, but those plans have been shelved for now due to the pandemic.
