Abu Dhabi T10 League: Pune Devils ropes in Jonty Rhodes for head coach position

The greatest fielder of all time, Jonty Rhodes has been appointed as the head coach of Pune Devils Coach for the upcoming edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 League. The announcement came when the franchise owners, Alpha sports released complete squad for the upcoming T10 League to be held in UAE.

Ahead of their debut season in Abu Dhabi T10 League 2020-21, Pune Devils were busy in the auction. They bought English wicket-keeper Sam Billings, Sri Lankan bowler Ajantha Mendis, fast bowler Hardus Viljoen, former cricketer Chamara Kapugedara and several local young players.

Currently, the South African legend is spending his New Year holidays in Sweden. Rhodes is working with the Swedish Cricket Federation to create pathways for cricketers. He is working as head coach, scout, man-manager, and trainer to take the sport to the next level in the Scandinavian country. Apart from his coaching stint with Sweden Cricket Federation, Rhodes is also looking after the junior cricketers and the upcoming women prospects across the country.

Speaking about announcement of head coach, Krishan Kumar Chaudhary, Co-owner of Pune Devils, said, “We are happy with the squad that we have selected and we know all our 14 players are talented and will give their best to win the tournament. The franchise has big hopes on head coach Jonty Rhodes and we are sure Jonty will bring the best from each individual.”

Earlier this month, the franchise appointed two of the biggest global names when it comes to franchise-based cricket. Pune Devils signed former Pakistan speedster Mohammad Amir, a day after his retirement from the International arena alongside Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Pereira as Icon Player. Pereira recently led Jaffna Stallions to the truimph in the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League.
